We disembark the ferry this morning and there is some free time to explore Santander, a picturesque coastal resort before we travel to the medieval city of Burgos for a short break. From here we continue on to Palencia for an overnight stay on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. ( D)
Today we travel through the Portuguese countryside to the seaside resort of Figueira da Foz, the city at the mouth of the Mondego River. It offers extensive beaches of soft white sand which invite for a relaxing holiday. (B,D)
Today we travel to beautiful Porto, Portugal’s second city where we enjoy a guided coach tour. The historic centre is a UNESCO World Heritage City, and boasts many beautiful buildings and atmospheric squares. We then visit Cais de Gaia for an included lunch. Gaia’s Wharf is nowadays transformed into a pleasant tourist area, endowed with wonderful esplanades, restaurants and bars, with a great view over Porto’s historic centre. In the afternoon we visit a port wine estate and learn about the process of producing port whist enjoying a sample or two! (B, L,D)
Today we visit Lisbon, Portugal’s hilly, coastal capital city. Enjoy a guided coach tour before free time to explore at leisure. The city perfectly reflects Portuguese culture, which embraces modern culture whilst maintaining its unique heritage and traditions. (B,D)
Our excursion today takes us to Coimbra where we enjoy a guided city tour by coach and on foot. Coimbra was the medieval capital of Portugal for over a hundred years, and its atmospheric, beautiful core cascades down a hillside in a lovely setting on the east bank of the Rio Mondego. It’s a multi-coloured collage of building spanning nearly a millennium. (B,D)
Enjoy a day at leisure and discover a beautiful resort known as the ‘Queen of Beaches’. (B,D)
It’s time to leave Portugal and make our way to Palencia in Spain where we stay once again on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. (B,)
Spend a morning relaxing in the hotel before travelling to Santander to board the ferry for your return overnight trip back to the UK. (B)
We arrive back in the UK and complete the journey home
While we have carefully planned our programme to be as relaxing and informative as possible the tour does require a certain level of physical ability in order to walk reasonable distances, sometimes over uneven ground. Electric scooters and or wheelchairs would also not be suitable for this tour.
