Our tour is full of local secrets which are unveiled as we experience, magnificent Rome, fascinating medieval cities, truly amazing UNESCO sites, delicious Italian food and above all, beauty everywhere we look. Nowadays, not many places can claim to be unspoiled, but Puglias rugged wooded mountains, rows of vineyards and millions of centuries old olive trees carpeting the land as far as the eye can see make the claim true. The landscape is dotted with picturesque Trulli, the areas distinctive whitewashed limestone dwellings their conical beehive like roofs create a distinctive skyline unique to this area, steeped in history and UNESCO sites. Marvel at the stunning Norman cathedrals, beautiful Baroque villages, and clever fortified Roman towns scattered throughout the region.

Following the Channel crossing we continue to our overnight half board accommodation at Metz.
After breakfast we continue our journey through France, Switzerland and into Italy for our second overnight stay at Reggio and check in to our hotel for dinner.
We travel via Modena, Bologna and Florence to arrive in Rome and our Hotel Pacific, close to St Peter’s Square and the Vatican Museum.
Today we join a morning instructive walking tour of Rome to see the most famous landmarks. Take in the Forum, Colosseum, Spanish Steps, Vatican City to name but a few. Afternoon at leisure.
We say ‘Arrivederci Roma’ and drive through Italy via Naples, stopping off at the quaint fishing port of Trani complete with cathedral, castle, shops and marina. Then we pass Bari to arrive at our Hotel Smeraldo, set in the hills near the town of Cisternino, surrounded by pine forests.
After breakfast we visit Castellana Grotte, one of nature’s wonders, amazing caves carved out of rock by underground rivers creating amazing stalactites & stalagmites. Our next stop is Alberobello, made up of one hundred Trulli, the gleaming white houses with grey coned roofs – some five centuries old – this is distinctive Puglia. Our final visit of the day is to Ostuni, the ‘White City’ famed for its dazzling whitewashed streets and buildings.
Today’s excursion is to Lecce, Florence of the South due to its wealth of Baroque and Rococco buildings. We continue to Otrano, Greek in origin, it’s beautifully positioned overlooking the Adriatic and boasts a 15th century castle and Romanesque Cathedral.
This morning we ‘ll explore the haunting UNESCO World Heritage site of Matera, whose ancient cave dwellings and churches are carved out of the cliff. This afternoon we visit the beautiful 8th century port of Taranto.
We leave southern Puglia and travel to the vibrant port of Bari, stopping off for a stroll around its cobbled lanes full of cafes, bars, restaurants and artisan shops. Then it’s off to the Garagano peninsular to discover yet another UNESCO site, the splendid Castel del Monte after which we travel to our hotel in Rodi Garanico, a small seaside town built on white rocks surrounded by orange groves and olive trees.

Enjoy a spectacular scenic coastal tour today encompassing medieval Vieste perched on stunning white cliffs and then onto Peschici where the whitewashed houses are perched above the turquoise sea below.
Sadly we leave Puglia and make our way though Italy’s Marche region to our overnight hotel in historic Macerata.
We travel to the Renaissance Art City of Ferrara today for some free time before continuing onto Italy’s famous Lake Garda for an overnight stay.
Today we spend the day in the quaint resort of Toscolano Maderno.
We travel back to Metz to our overnight half board accommodation.
Continue to Calais and complete the journey home.
